Composition One was inspired by all the beautifully worn stencils that were left over from the Tabulating Transparency Series. I had made a series of figurative stencils traced from old photographs to use in a "jump start an idea" series of drawings. This group of drawings lead to Tabulating Transparency but once that series was complete I was left with all of these wonderful scraps. Honestly, I loved these stencils as much, if not more than the finished work. After admiring these little gems for some time I created a one-of-a-kind artist book with the goal of incorporating all of my treasured left overs; hence, the birth of Composition One.
