Inspiration can come from a variety of sources ranging from the sublime to the mundane.
Kristin Rothrock and I had a plan to collaborate but what would be the inspiration for
the project? After discussing the many common denominators of our friendship, humor
seemed to stand out.
This project would begin as a round robin through the mail as the
two of us live 700 miles apart. It would end with a visit to Winnebago Studios in Madison,
Wisconsin where the final touches would be applied to each pieces in the series. To begin
we collected a list of knock-knock jokes and determined a size for the prints. Next came
the mark making; images were constructed via letterpress, rubber stamp, stencil, drawing
and ink jet. The pieces circulated through the mail, then collage was incorporated and the
prints began to take form.
Gathering at Winnebago Studios in October, Kristin and I continued
printing and assembling the pieces until 57 collages were complete, 6 of which can be seen on
this site. This series of unique prints proves that inspiration springs from many places and
that no place is too silly.
Knock Knock are available for $100 each (unframed), or $125 each (framed)
